When Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Ornell granted our media request in Mark- the -Process- Server's case involving a court reporter charged with altering transcripts, we were allowed to video record the proceeding assigned to Judge Averil. A year later Judge Averil, the court's presiding judge, has become the judge forced to deal with the issue of court appointed attorneys acting as minors counsel in family law cases.
On the heels of recording these hearings, and making media requests, we recently reported on Sonoma County minors counsel Julie Levy and Dan Beck. A link to this week's article can be found @davisvanguard davisvanguard.org/2026/04/sonoma-county-court-transparency-case
Minors counsel the likes of Dan Beck are paid with public funds, but the court is not producing records to show the public how much minors counsel are earning , or what they actually do on the public's dime.
