Since starting Yucca Pac Campers it has become clear to me that I will have to make substantial sacrifices in my ability to travel in the spring, summer, and fall. These are our most busy months; the days when I can leave and travel my dream routes in favorable weather conditions are a few years ahead of me. I had been too optimistic about the elevation changes I expected.
In my home country of Canada, just to the north, most service roads receive a minimal level of service during the winter months due to the
commercial demand for remote access year-round. This is not the case in the Pacific North West, Many routes are entirely blocked by plowed snow, and those that aren't, rise in elevation so much that eventually, you reach a point of no return. I could have spent hours inching my way up the mountain with no guarantee of success, however, the higher I go the deeper it gets and as a solo adventure traveler I have to be mindful of the terrain and remote nature of where I go and descending slippery steep switchbacks is not ideal the snow and temps forced me down.
That being said there was no shortage of things to do and see at lower elevations so I decided to do some more fishing before stopping for lunch, Join me next time as we get off this remote mountain road and descend into the deserts of Oregon!
