If Alex O’Connor had interviewed Fr. Stephen De Young instead of William Lane Craig he would have heard a different answer to the question of Biblical genocide (Deuteronomy 20, Joshua 8 are passages specifically considered in this conversation). Whereas William Lane Craig decided to defend divine command morality, Fr. Stephen De Young points to the cosmic forces and spiritual war going on in the unseen realm of this world. De Young also highlights that it was not the ethnicity of these Canaanite clans which was being targeted but the pagan ritualistic practices that needed to be eliminated. We will look at how Jesus interacted with the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:21-28 to highlight the point that it was the practices of the people which were condemned and not the individuals in those clans.
