Many evangelicals believe the Earth is 6-10,000 years old and that we are the special creation of a god. Yet science clearly shows that this belief is absurdly wrong, by many orders of magnitude.

So, what is the appeal of 'Young Earth' claims? Why would the age of the Earth matter to their god beliefs?
