ctrl-alt-rees | Atari Video Music Story & Restoration @ctrlaltrees | Uploaded January 2022 | Updated October 2024, 14 minutes ago.
The Atari C-240 Video Music was a rather weird music visualiser released in 1977. Once described by Techmoan as "The Migraine Machine", join me as I share the story behind how and why the gaming and home computing giant decided to try to get into the world of audiophile hi-fi separates, and fix and restore mine with some brand new walnut side panels, an s-video output mod, and an internal 230V PSU mod so it can run happily on UK power.
That's right, I'm doing vintage hifi repair and restoration videos now!
Big thanks to John from @AmigosRetroGaming for the voice acting contribution and for taking the very weird quote I sent over in his stride! youtube.com/AmigosRetroGaming
Also thanks to h0ffman for allowing me to use his track "Hot Dots" to demo: soundcloud.com/h0ffman
You can buy h0ffman's vinyl album "The Cave Sessions" from the RMC Retro store: https://rmcretro.store/h0ffman-the-cave-sessions-double-vinyl-record/
Credit to user "blinddog44" in the comments who initially drew up the schematics and uploaded them to AtariAge. Unfortunately it seems they're no longer available in their original location so I have mirrored the file below.
