The solution: Hold down the rear macro button and the up button on the left D-pad. If all else fails you can use a USB/USB-C Keyboard/hub to type.
An issue with the Asus ROG Ally was the keyboard is not appearing or show up when you set up the Wi-Fi on the device. Clicking and opening the side menu will not show the keyboard.
