Deion Desir, New York City high school science teacher and alum of the Museum’s Master of Arts in Teaching Earth Science program, pilots a virtual flight through a new space debris data set in Open Space, the interactive data visualization software designed to visualize the entire universe. Visit satellites, including SpaceX’s controversial Starlink, then voyage beyond our solar systems to bodies such as Borisov and Oumuamua.
Cosmic Challenge 1: Can you spot the International Space Station next time it flies over your neighborhood? Use web-based tools to find out where and when to look for it in your sky! spotthestation.nasa.gov
Cosmic Challenge #2: Check out Arthur C. Clarke's short story, "The Sentinel".
Applications for @AMNH 's Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Earth and space science are now being accepted. Every student gets a full scholarship plus a $30,000 stipend for this 15 month graduate program. More details can be found at amnh.org/learn-teach/master-of-arts-in-teaching-earth-science-residency
