Mike Simmons has been an outreach astronomy program organizer for almost 50 years. He expanded his efforts to global communities and programs during the last 20 years, including 100 Hours of Astronomy in the International Year of Astronomy 2009 and founding Astronomers Without Borders (AWB). He has received numerous awards for his work including the naming of Minor Planet Simmons in his honor. He is retired from a 36-year career in medical research at the UCLA School of Medicine.
