Here's a complete beginner's guide to Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced: all the tips and tricks I wish I knew before playing, so you get the best start in Ubisoft's Black Flag remake.
I've finished the main story and played 50+ hours on the review build, so this covers everything new players need on day one: how long it takes to beat, unlocking the full map and fast travel, the open world activities actually worth your time, winning every naval battle, the best weapons and perks, hideout upgrades and easy money, Animus Rifts, the Animus Hub, and the best settings to turn on before you start.

If you're new here or still on the fence: Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is Ubisoft Singapore's full remake (not a remaster) of the 2013 original, rebuilt from the ground up on the latest Anvil engine that powered Assassin's Creed Shadows.
On top of the original campaign's 12 sequences and epilogue, you're getting roughly six hours of new content woven through it: the Blackbeard's Treasure and Stede Bonnet questlines, the naval officer side missions, four Animus Rifts, and a brand new eight-mission endgame chapter called A World Without Gold.
Out now (9 July 2026) on PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

🧭 How does fast travel work? You don't need to unlock sync points: discover a location by docking (Pathfinder can even auto-dock somewhere new) and you can fast travel back with your ship, straight into the manor too.
⚔️ What's the best early weapon? The Officer's Rapier from the hideout general store (8,500 reales) chains up to four instant kills, and pistol swords paired with the Golden Flintlock Pistols are outrageous.
🌳 Are there skill trees? No. Every combat move comes from perks on your weapons and trinkets, and outfits are purely cosmetic (the trinket slot unlocks at Havana in Sequence 2).
💰 Fastest way to make money early? Capture forts, buy the 100-coin tavern so the tip jar spawns more Royal Convoys, loot warehouses, and upgrade the manor for hourly passive income.
🏰 How many forts are there? 11, all attackable once the south opens (one is story-based). Each defogs the map, adds a fast travel point, clears your wanted level and pays out gold.
🌀 Is modern day in the remake? The old modern day is gone: four optional Animus Rifts (around 20 minutes each) are this remake's take on it, ending with the Dark Animus pistol swords.
👕 Is there transmog? Yes, free and from the start: hit customise on any item to change its appearance without touching the perks.
⚙️ What settings should I turn on? Area Loot, Auto Reload Pistols, Unlimited Oxygen, Auto Sing and Skip Quick Time Events.
🚢 Should I sink or board ships? Board every time early on, sinking loses half the loot.
