Asimina Arvanitaki is on the hunt for the universe’s faintest whispers.

Instead of billion-dollar colliders, this Perimeter particle theorist builds exquisitely precise tabletop experiments — detectors that could catch dark matter waves, black holes humming with hidden particles, or echoes from the dawn of time.

Growing up in a small Greek village, Mina once calculated the eight-minute delay between the Sun and its light reaching Earth. That spark set her on a path from Athens to Stanford to Perimeter, where she now pushes the “precision frontier” of physics.

Her goal? To reveal what 95% of the universe is made of — and to show that even the smallest experiments can unlock the biggest mysteries.
