In the Malaysian city of Muar -- known as Furniture City -- manufacturers are bracing for the impact of new U.S. tariffs.

On Oct. 14, tariffs of 25% will be levied on kitchen cabinets and upholstered wooden furniture. And by next year, those rates are set to rise as high as 50%.

Industry leaders say they will have to absorb costs for now, largely by passing them on to the buyer.
