Since elephant calf Linh Mai's first outdoor swim in mid-July, she's been gaining confidence in the water. She recently took a dip with Auntie Swarna, our adult female elephant who has stepped into a caregiving role for Linh Mai.
Swimming and playing in water are important natural behaviors for Asian elephants, and ones Linh Mai seems to enjoy! While Linh Mai is still working on her "pachyderm paddle", her adult herd members are ready to show her the ropes. What other natural behaviors have you observed on the Elephant Cam?
