If medieval food sounds bland, this video argues the complete opposite.
While researching recipes for my one-night DND Tavern Experience, I discovered that medieval cooking actually relied heavily on prestige spices like saffron, cinnamon, clove, and black pepper — ingredients associated with wealth, status, and celebration.
So I built a fantasy tavern feast inspired by that idea:
🍖 Guinness beef stew slow-cooked with warm layered spices
🍎 Red wine poached apples infused with saffron, honey, cardamom & clove
What surprised me most was how balanced everything tasted.
The spices don’t overpower the food — they sit subtly in the background, giving the stew warmth, depth, and a flavor profile that almost feels like medieval comfort food.
It’s familiar… but with a fantasy tavern twist.
This is not framed as generic fantasy food. The video is tied to a one-night tavern experience and to the wider DND world iam building across music, atmosphere, identity, and storytelling.
This honestly felt like stepping inside a D&D world.
