An amazingly beautiful and inspiring video talks about breaking the perception of working in tough jobs usually perceived by men.
With an aim to break the conventional perception of the roles of men and women, Ashok Leyland invited five little girls to their manufacturing facility in Pantnagar in Uttarakhand. Their experiences and observations are captured in this Video. The video begins with these girls entering the massive facility and looking around in complete awe. Ashok Leyland showed the little girls the work women do in their factory – constructing machines, assembling parts, repairing tools.
On International Women's Day, Ashok Leyland's MD Mr Vinod K Dasari explains how gender diversity is important for the ever-growing automobile industry.
From a young age boys and girls are conditioned to behave according to the ‘gender roles’. As the ad clearly portrays, even young girls believe that only strong men can build trucks and buses. The words the little girls use to describe men are ‘strong’, ‘powerful’ and ‘tall’. When asked if only men can build these machines, the girls seemed confused and do not reply. Ashok Leyland breaks the stereotype by showing the little girls that women too can build big machines. Their ad #BreakThePerception acts as a role model on how women should be portrayed in ads in the future.
Let us leave behind what we are taught, instead teach everyone that there is nothing women cannot do. Happy Women's Day.
