If memories help us know who we are, what does it mean for a person to witness a new memory of child abuse during a psychedelic experience? This talk presents a series of psychotherapy case reports documenting patients who, during the course of psychedelic-assisted therapy, experienced the emergence of new memories of childhood abuse they had no previous recollection of. These case reports provide an account of the emergence of these distressing memories during the acute psychedelic experience and the therapeutic process that followed.
Bio:
Ashleigh is a clinical psychologist and research therapist at Clerkenwell Health where she provides psychedelic-assisted therapy on clinical trials using psilocybin, 5-Me0-DMT and Methylone to treat patients suffering with depression and PTSD. Ashleigh is also a member of the Imperial Centre for Psychedelic Research where she has been carrying out research exploring what is needed to effectively translate these therapies from clinical trials to real world clinical practice, including their application to complex trauma and therapist training.
