The United Kingdom has become an increasingly active partner for ASEAN. In 2021, the UK became an ASEAN dialogue partner, and in 2024, the UK Mission to ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat launched the ASEAN-UK Economic Integration Programme (EIP)—a four-year initiative aimed at supporting ASEAN economic integration through technical assistance, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and work in areas such as digitisation, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), financial services, regulatory reform, and trade.

Mr Kenn Especkerman-True join us in this podcast. Kenn is Southeast Asia's Director for Economics and Trade Policy at the British High Commission of the United Kingdom, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, FCDO for short. Based in Singapore, he works on the UK's economic and trade policy engagement with Southeast Asia, including cooperation with ASEAN and regional partners. Kenn's work sits at the intersection of trade policy, development cooperation, economic resilience, and regional integration.

The “ASEAN in Practice” podcast aims to invite practitioners from around the region that have spent many years working on ASEAN issues and policies. Through this podcast series, we hope to gain some valuable insights from their experiences that will contribute towards the policy-making level in the form of policy papers and future research on ASEAN.
