Ascetic Sumedha
Many eons ago when Dipankara was a Samma Sambuddha, fulfilling the wish of the brahmin devotee ascetic Sumedha who lay prone on the muddy road, he blessed and made a prediction that after accumulating perfections for many eons, Sumedha would definitely become a Buddha by the name of Siddhartha Gotama.
Dhuvam buddho bhavissasi.
This auspicious declaration by the Buddha reverberated through the skies and its echoes were heard for a long time.
At the same time, fulfilling the wish of the brahmin girl Sumitra, Lord Dipankara blessed her also and made a prediction that she would in many lives have this youth as her husband and finally when he will be born as Siddhartha Gotama of the Shakya clan, he will become a Samma Sambuddha and in that birth, she will be his wife by the name Yashodhara and having learned Vipassana from him, get liberated from the cycles of birth and death.
