The Chrono Trigger cartridge that was sent to Japanese video game reviewers prior to release has some differences from the final game, and the music is no exception. While several of the tracks have slight differences from the final version, there are 3 tracks that are entirely different from the final game. This is track 3 of 3, which I have named Ascend to the Light. The instrumentation and melody evoke the feeling of Manoria Cathedral, but it's unknown where this was meant to play. The music file from the Pre-release rom itself is unfinished, with several errors. Channel 2 was panned all the way to the left, channel 5 had no instrument assigned to it, and the entire song didn't loop back to the beginning. I have corrected all 3 errors.
This song is included in my hack, "Chrono Trigger - Expanded Soundtrack" (romhacking.net/hacks/6886/), which adds the songs to the game's data file so that it can be accessed and added via editor. It may also be implemented into Chrono Trigger Plus, though it has not yet been added to a specific location.
