(A Short Parody) . The IBM AS/400 (Application System/400) is a family of mid-range computers from IBM announced in June 1988. Originally code-named “Silverlake.” Various models ranged in size small footprint units to the giant B-60 model (seen in this video) weighing over 1,100 pounds (500kg). The 400 was the more powerful and less expensive successor to IBM’s popular System/36 and System/38 minicomputers. It ran the OS/400 operating system. The AS/400 was extremely successful at launch, with an estimated 111,000 installed by the end of 1990, increasing to 250,000 installations by 1994, and about 500,000 shipped by 1997. One of its great benefits was the vast amount of third party software that was also available for a wide range of applications.
The AS/400 family line was rebranded several times in the 1990s and 2000s as IBM introduced newer generations of hardware and operating system.

************ THE "23" Hacker Film: The video clip shown is from the German film - "23" ( made in 1998) Directed by Hans-Christian Schmid. The movie’s plot is based on the true story of a group of young computer hackers from Hannover, Germany. In the late 1980s the orphaned Karl Koch invests his heritage in a flat and a home computer. At first he dials up to bulletin boards to discuss conspiracy theories inspired by his favorite novel, R.A. Wilson’s “Illuminatus”, but soon he and his friend David start breaking into government and military computers. The vintage part of that film we found interesting is the purchase and transport of an AS/400 (probably B60 model). The film exists on EU Blu-Ray disk, but we have not found anywhere to stream it in German or English subtitles. If you find it, please let us know. Thanks! ~ CHAP
