Eva Rothschild talks to Lucinda Lax, Curator of Paintings and Sculpture, about her artistic practice and recent projects.

About Eva Rothschild
Eva Rothschild was born in Dublin in 1971. She works in a variety of materials, including aluminum, fabric, Jesmonite, and leather. Her work is primarily sculptural, involving conceptual and sociopolitical ideas alongside traditional making. The works often reference minimalist sculpture of the 1960s and 1970s and classical architecture. Her practice explores the relationships between ideas of civilization and the power of looking. Rothschild also works on major public and outdoor commissions.

In 2014, Rothschild was elected as a Royal Academician to the Royal Academy of Arts, London. In 2019, she represented Ireland at the 58th Venice Biennale. She has held numerous solo exhibitions worldwide. In 2017, Rothschild’s work Empire (2011) was unveiled at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden as part of the redeveloped Walker Art Center campus, marking her first permanent outdoor work in the United States. Her work is included in many collections worldwide. She lives and works in London.
