ZKM | Karlsruhe | Artist Talk with Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen | Art me Anything @ZKM Karlsruhe @zkmkarlsruhe | Uploaded September 2022 | Updated October 2024, 8 hours ago.
Breathing and rippling walls, twisting and struggling cables, and a freely moving
robot – the exhibition »BioMedia« itself seems to be alive. One of its "living" works is the large scale installation »Zoirotia«. The research environment CITA (including Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen) built it as a structure that immerses visitors in a dynamic and changing environment, creating a human-machine choreography.
In our series »Art me Anything«, we ask artists of the ZKM exhibitions random questions about life and technologies. Exploring the relationship between artificial and organic life, work and "creator" with questions such as "How do you define whether something is alive?" or "Would you upload your mind to a cloud?".
00:00 Intro
00:20 What keeps your work alive?
00:45 Have you ever been friends with a device?
01:50 Which media do you depend on?
02:33 What does living mean to you?
03:38 Would you upload your mind to a cloud?
04:08 Outro
