Visit Cherokee Nation | Artist Spotlight: Troy Jackson (29th Cherokee Homecoming Art Show) @VisitCherokeeNation | Uploaded September 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 week ago.
Cherokee National Treasure Troy Jackson took home Best in Show at this year’s Cherokee Homecoming Art Show, with his piece “Cherokee Rose 3, Continuance.” After graduating from NSU, Troy followed in his father’s footsteps and began auto body repair work, but he always wanted to be an artist. Fast forward many years later, Troy began sculpting in 2010 and has since become an award-winning artist.
After reading a story about the Cherokee Rose, he was inspired to make this piece and hopes people see that artists are wanting to keep the Cherokee culture alive and pass it on to future generations.
The 29th Annual Cherokee Homecoming Art Show is open through September 7 at The Gallery at Cherokee Springs Plaza in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Learn more about the show at: homecomingartshow.com
