OpenAI has developed "Jukebox" openai.com/blog/jukebox an AI tool that lets you generate new music by any artist, either starting from nothing or an audio file which the AI can adapt to. While they've made over 7,000 songs already, the tool was released letting anyone make anything.
Here's an example, using the unreleased Steely Dan song "Kind Spirit", with a neural network trained on their discography extending it after only hearing 13 seconds. 3 different versions were generated.
One downside of this AI is that it takes a P100 GPU, that at least costs $6,000 to compute even the worst sounding version within two hours. If I let this render for 3 more hours it'll sound somewhat better (which is what this is). After that I need to render it for 12 to 24 hours for the final sounding version. At the final stage it's impossible as "Google Colab", the free service to use this tech, kicks you out at 12 hours unless you pay $10 a month to them for longer time to use their equipment. If you want to make "Level 0" versions of these please let me know!
