Judges Notes:

I decided to make a character study for Arthur Pendragon of BBC Merlin. I found this song by accident one day and was amazed at how fitting the lyrics were for his story.

What I wanted to convey, was Arthur's struggle to grow out from under his father's (Uther's) shadow and into the man that would be king someday. To do so he must first realize that, unlike his father, he cannot be alone if he wants to be the king he feels he needs to be. Every time he tries to go it on his own, something bad happens forcing Merlin to save him.

Ever so slowly Arthur finds that he disagrees with Uther's point of view, and begins to cultivate lasting relationships with Gwen, Merlin, and eventually the Knights of the Round Table --all people who are able to help him be the best king he can be. In the end Arthur was truly, never meant to fight on his own.
