And this question came up because many people say you can't learn the ART of character animation.
I mean, you can learn the techniques and tricks... But you CAN’T possibly learn art.
You either have it or not. In other words, you have to be... Kind of the chosen one...?
Well. I think it’s bull crap. I say anyone can learn the ART of cartoon animation.
Here is what we, at 2d animation 101 think...
First... You need to be curious about…
(question) What do great artists actually do, when they accomplish awesome character animation?
How do they think? What do they imagine? And what can you do to make your own cartoon?
Actually, we first need to know: What’s awesome character animation?
Yeah. What the heck is good character animation, right?
Ok. Is when your character makes the audience pay attention. When they see a character being alive.
Having emotions.
If we agree on that, then...
What do awesome artists think or imagine when doing character animation?
Are you ready? Here is a little secret… This is something anyone can do to start thinking like the great animators out there…
Every time you do character animation, always, and I mean, ALWAYS, do your best to show your character’s emotions.
Think about it. Every Disney or pixar movie, TV episode, anime, has cartoon characters showing emotions.
You see, you can be an expert on any 2d animation software, but that won’t make you an artist.
What will make you great, will be your ability to show your character’s emotions.
So this is our secret.
