Hi friends. I encourage you to think about, and attempt, ugly art. The process surprised me in a few ways. First, I wondered about ‘how’ to make my painting ‘ugly’. Isn’t that a subjective concept? And then I chose some colors and placed them on the page in a variety of ways. Second, I had to let loose with the creation. I felt the ‘feels’ of how the page was evolving and I came to the conclusion that I liked what was created, even though the lines were messy, the colors muddy, the focal point childish. So, I had happy emotions making the page so, even though it’s ugly, I had a blast making it. I think that’s what Amy was going for in her book - enjoy the ‘doing’, not the final result.
