Host Margaret Harrington talks with Arnie Gundersen about the ongoing nuclear man made crisis when there is no sound methodology in place for decommissioning Fukushima Daiitchi or Vermont Yankee or any of the nuclear power plants being decommissioned in the US. A nuclear power plant carcass can sit for 60 or 70 years with ratepayers and tax payers paying for them after the plant owners have been subsidized at the public expense. tinyurl.com/hqk2sr5

Arnie Gundersen on CCTV- Nuclear Free Future: Fukushima at 5 and the Vermont Yankee Shutdown: What Do They Mean
What are the parallels between the ongoing clean up at Fukushima Daiichi and the current decommissioning process at Entergy’s Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant? Listen as CCTV’s host Margaret Harrington interviews Fairewinds’ Chief Engineer Arnie Gundersen to discuss these parallels. Providing insight from his recent trip to Japan, where he spent time in the Fukushima prefecture, Arnie reveals the flawed methodology of the decommissioning process touted by the nuclear industry worldwide. Despite the challenge of enormous radioactive contamination from a triple meltdown, Fukushima Daiichi utility owner Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) claims it will take them 40-years to dismantle their destroyed reactors. Yet, Vermont Yankee owner Entergy Corp. and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission agree that a 60-year clean up of Vermont Yankee is acceptable.

Breaking News: NBC covers Sen. Bernie Sanders’ call to shut down Indian Point tinyurl.com/hxpd73s
Presidential candidate, Senator Bernie Sanders publicly called for the shutdown of the aged, tritium leaking Indian Point nuclear reactor. As NBC reports,

"I am very concerned that the Indian Power nuclear power reactor is more than ever before a catastrophe waiting to happen," Sanders said in a statement Monday. "In my view, we cannot sit idly by and hope that the unthinkable will never happen. We must take action to shut this plant down in a safe and responsible way. It makes no sense to me to continue to operate a decaying nuclear reactor within 25 miles of New York City where nearly 10 million people live."

Senator Sanders is the only presidential candidate who has openly opposed nuclear power production. NBC coverage shows Senator Sanders promoting clean renewable energy like wind and solar as replacements for atomic reactors.
