A 21-year-old U.S. Army soldier from Florida has been arrested and charged with rape after Montville police say they found him with a 12-year-old runaway from Willowick at a Medina County hotel.
According to a Facebook post from the Montville Police Department, officers were dispatched to a township hotel on Aug. 14 to look for the girl, who had been reported as a runaway.
During the investigation, officers learned that Jayden C. Fox, 21, of Palatka, Florida, met the juvenile online and traveled to the Willowick area from Fort Bragg in North Carolina while on a four-day leave from the U.S. Army, according to police.
Police said Fox had traveled to the area to meet the girl and pick her up.
Investigators tracked the girl's cellphone to the area and found her inside a hotel room rented by Fox, police said. She was safely reunited with her family.
Fox was taken into custody based on information investigators obtained at the scene and was indicted on one count of first-degree rape by a Medina County grand jury on Aug. 18.
He remains in the Medina County Jail on a $2 million bond. Court records show that Fox's trial is slated to begin on Oct. 26.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional charges are anticipated as investigators continue to gather evidence and pursue leads.
"The Montville Police Department is working closely with Medina County Prosecutor S. Forrest Thompson’s Office and other agencies and resources to ensure this case is thoroughly investigated and that all appropriate charges are pursued," police officials added in the Facebook post.
Police said they could not provide additional details because of the ongoing investigation and the age of the victim.
