Mr. Bockelman was a Launch Area Electronics Technician for the US Army. He heard numerous first hand accounts from various radar operators that they were seeing extremely fast targets moving at 3500 miles per hour. Some of these were making impossibly small-radius turns. At one time he witnessed an attempt to shoot one down with an air defense missile near Mount Vernon, WA.
