Korea Today. Part 2.
US Army activity in 1948 - Korea. Surplus ships from postwar Europe have been shipped here (since the Japanese took a lot of the machinery / infrastructure during WWII).
Korea is also rebuilding its roads. And there are projects to make South Korea as self-sufficient as possible (most hydroelectric power is in the Northern Zone).
The US Military Government is working on projects to help the homeless, rebuild housing, and conserve forests. In 1946 there was a cholera epidemic in Pusan so public health efforts are also important.
Nurses' training is being undertaken, with emphasis on the profession of nursing. Before in Korea, they were just servants.
During Japanese rule, schools with Japanese teachers taught children Japanese. Now they are going to be taught by Korean teachers. There will be Korean policemen as well and Americans are assisting in rebuilding this.
