Through funding contributions from RESTORE, the Galveston Bay Estuary Program (provided by TCEQ), Harris County, private foundations, other donors, and a generous donation by Exxon Mobil, Armand Bayou Nature Center was able to purchase 1,145 acres to add to the existing preserve. With collaboration from state, federal, county, private foundations and other partners this 1,145-acre land acquisition made Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC) the largest urban wilderness preserve in Texas. ABNC now contains over 4,000 acres of the natural wetlands forest, prairie and marsh habitats once abundant in the Houston and Galveston area. ABNC is home to over 370 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. ABNC offers hiking trails, exhibits, field trips, Scout programs, birding, a historic farm and fun for all.
