Their purpose is the deliberate cultivation of moral clarity, practical competence, and relational integrity, so that the developing person may be launched into responsible adulthood as a distinct and accountable bearer of life, not as a prolonged extension of parental or mentor identity. Honor, within this framework, is not sustained through control, dependence, or retained authority, but through the faithful investment that is later exercised independently in a mature state as the individual enters the world. The commandment thus safeguards generational continuity by restraining ego driven possession and preserving the integrity of maturation itself.
