Argonne National Laboratory is a leader in scientific innovation, renowned for its cutting-edge research in chemistry, materials science, and advanced technologies. The lab is recognized for pioneering new approaches to discovery, leveraging state-of-the-art facilities and interdisciplinary expertise to address some of the world’s most complex scientific challenges.

Traditional research methods in chemistry and materials science often struggle with slow, manual experimentation and fragmented workflows. These limitations can delay breakthroughs in critical areas such as energy storage, quantum science, and microelectronics, where rapid progress is essential to meet technological advancements.

In this video, Argonne chemist Lily Robertson describes how she and other researchers completed more than 6,000 experiments in just five months, significantly accelerating the exploration of new energy storage materials and identifying key molecular barriers to battery stability. The study, published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, was conducted at RAPID-200: Autonomous Lab for Materials and Chemistry — one of Argonne's Robotic Autonomous Platforms for Innovative Discovery (RAPID) labs. These labs are transforming the research landscape by integrating robotics, artificial intelligence, and advanced experimental tools into a unified, autonomous workflow. This seamless integration speeds up scientific progress and expands the possibilities for innovation in materials and chemistry research.
