In an editorial published in GreenMedInfo.com, Sayer Ji reviewed an article published in the July 2014 issue of Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology on the effects of 10 mg of Lipitor after 5 months of treatment in 17 normal men with normal cholesterol values. They found major abnormalities in both sperm morphology and function as well as in the seminal fluid that would be expected to interfere with fertilization.
Big pharma's responsibility is to its stock holders, not to the people who purchase them. They are also well known to fund research and interpret their findings in ways that make the product look much better than it really is. Several examples are mentioned.
There is a place for using statins, but it is far smaller than lifestyle oriented medicine. It would be for those patients who have already had a heart attack or stroke and who will not adopt a healthy lifestyle.
