Despite the many benefits, fewer than 20% of US older adults adhere to national guidelines for aerobic and strength training. While many barriers to physical activity have been noted and a range of motivational approaches have been tested, performance remains poor nationally. One approach that has not been tried to enhance adherence, however, is to develop, test and disseminate briefer workouts. This presentation will discuss the evidence supporting the impact of briefer workouts on the physical performance of older adults and the potential for increasing engagement and improving the public’s health by offering shorter programs to those who need them the most – older adults.
