🌍 Emery Pharma Speaker Series A Powerful and Timely Conversation
Recently, we had the honor of hosting Professor Ivana Hughes, faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at Columbia University and President of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, as part of the Emery Pharma Speaker Series.
Much like the legendary chemist Linus Pauling, Professor Hughes has devoted her scientific voice to addressing one of humanity’s gravest risks the proliferation and management of nuclear weapons across both major and unstable powers. While this topic represents a departure from our usual focus on pharmacokinetics, bioanalysis, pharmaceutical development, and food safety, her message could not be more relevant. The safety of humanity and ultimately the foundation of all scientific innovation depends on a safe and stable world.
Professor Hughes delivered an eye opening talk on the global dangers posed by nuclear arsenals, environmental contamination from historical nuclear testing, and why nuclear disarmament remains one of the most urgent scientific and moral imperatives of our time. Her clarity, conviction, and scientific grounding made this one of the most impactful sessions we have hosted.
I was personally motivated to invite her after hearing her recent interview with Tucker Carlson. As a chemist, she follows in the footsteps of Linus Pauling, who used scientific truth to advocate against nuclear testing and became the only person in history to receive two unshared Nobel Prizes, one in Chemistry and one for Peace.
