Make sure when important information scrolls across the screen you don't miss it. I create substitutes for anything negative happening to my character such as being blinded, silenced, etc. This way instead of "You are silenced" scrolling across and me missing it I instead see "HOLY CRAP YOU'RE SILENCED, AND WILL NEVER SPEAK AGAIN OMG!!!!!" which is much easier to pick out.
