ArchiParis - Red 1 ( Pantheon) is a drawing by contemporary French artist Guillaume Chansarel. This drawing depicts a snowy glimpse of a street in Paris, with the Pantheon looming in the background. This view is portrayed with meticulousness and finesse, highlighting the view along the snow-covered road leading up to the monument.
This drawing is part of a larger artistic project dedicated to Paris, in which the artist created 104 drawings depicting various locations across the city. These original works are reproduced in an artist book titled ArchiParis, presented in five volumes. Each volume explores a selection of alphabet letters, with each letter linked to a keyword that serves as inspiration for the drawings. For instance, the letter A corresponds to arrival, representing different ways of entering Paris—by plane, boat, train, or road. The letter G is associated with gallery, featuring tunnels and passageways. This particular drawing of the Place des Victoires falls under the letter I, linked to the word indéboulonnable (Unmovable in French). ArchiParis takes the reader on a Parisian stroll, a singular urban exploration through the eyes of the artist. This series of drawings aims to present and reveal Paris from a distinctive perspective: that of a true Parisian.
“ArchiParis is a graphic tour of the capital. For a year, depending on my moods and the weather, I crisscrossed the city with a sketchbook under my arm. Following a self-imposed alphabet – A for Arrival, M for Midnight, Z for Zinc, etc. – I tried to transcribe Paris as I felt it. This constraint was necessary in order to avoid clichés, and to take a fresh look at the 20 arrondissements. As a result, in these 104 drawings of Paris, the atmospheres, lights and perspectives often take precedence over the places themselves.” Guillaume Chansarel
