The Integral Stage | Archetypes in Religion and Beyond (Interview with Robert Ellis) @theintegralstage8140 | Uploaded April 2022 | Updated October 2024, 10 hours ago.
In the twenty-first episode of the Integral Stage's Author Series, Layman talks with Robert M. Ellis about his latest book, Archetypes in Religion and Beyond. They explore an embodied, postmetaphysial understanding of archetypes -- as diachronic schematic functions -- and the roles that particular archetypes, such as the hero, the shadow, or the God or Self archetype, may play in our development and meaningful engagement with the world. And as Robert is also a Middle Way scholar and practitioner and a meditation teacher, they discuss his understanding of the Middle Way, his extension of a Middle Way sensibility beyond Buddhism, the interface of these ideas and practices with a Jungian approach, and the ways that mindfulness, art, critical thinking, and archetypal work contribute to our individuation and spiritual fulfillment.
Robert M. Ellis is a philosopher, writer and teacher. He has produced a series of books about the Middle Way, understood as a principle of judgement that throws us onto experience by avoiding absolutes, both positive and negative. He has also founded the Middle Way Society to support the development and practice of the Middle Way understood in this way, and he has recently opened a retreat center, Tirylan House, in rural South Wales.
