Ritual in Anthropology
Ritual is a collection of repetitive sacred events with high symbolic content.
Rituals are often performed for religious practices or for traditional or cultural ceremonies. But they can also be used to help keep groups in order, bring groups together, and can also serve as rites of passage.
With a global pandemic on our hands, understanding ritual helps me remember to wash them!
While the reason I wash my hands is scientific, not religious, the idea of keeping the planet and the human species healthy is a fun way to teach this anthropological concept.
I made this in 20 minutes, and spent two hours editing it. Forgive me, it’s not perfect. Please share, people need to know washing their hands is important. An archaeologist shouldn’t have to tell you that!
As my friend (@ebby) points out- they were definitely diseases before agriculture!! Just not mass spreads of them that were brought on by intensive city building and civilization! Again, not perfect. Just wash your damn hands and stay inside!
DISCLAIMER! I’m not actually blazing the chron!! I just thought the didgeridoo looked like a bong in that picture so I added in the smoke and reggae. Apparently it’s convincing 😂 though I’m not opposed to marijuana in any regard!
