This is one of my favorite 3D space combat simulation games. A 3D spin-off of the Gradius series. It's often seen as a 3D rail shooter similar to games like the SNES Star Fox and Panzer Dragoon for the Sega Saturn. While it may not be as good as the 2D Gradius games, 3D gameplay works here.

There are 2 different versions of this game, one called Solar Assault and Solar Assault-Revised. The first version has only 5 levels. The second version (Revised) has an additional level, the lava stage bringing the level to a total of 6 levels. The US version uses the revised version of the game. The game was released exclusively to the arcades. Never ported to the consoles. Even when you do a play-through of all ships, the ending is the same. Very good use of 3-D polygonal graphics for its time which runs on Konami's GTI hardware.

For this playthrough, I chose the Lord British ship.
