Previously in our series on the world of Tolkien, the world of the Lord of the Rings, we have talked about the First and Third ages of the Middle-Earth, covering the entire of the Third Age and the war of the ring (youtu.be/BmqKXTqXglM), the rise of Morgoth in the First Age (youtu.be/LFQ9RyGJ5uw) and his fall (youtu.be/ewrJVLdPx9k), as well as the economy and the societies of the Middle-Earth (youtu.be/B86jAx_gPPU). Sauron was destroyed, the One Ring was gone, and Aragorn was crowned King Elessar — but the story of Middle-earth did not end with victory. This video explores what happened after the War of the Ring, as the Reunited Kingdom of Gondor and Arnor rose from the ruins of the Third Age. Aragorn restored Gondor’s ancient institutions, renewed the alliance with Rohan, pardoned surrendering Easterlings, made peace with Harad, and freed the slaves of Mordor around Lake Núrnen. Yet enemies remained in the East and South, forcing Elessar and Éomer to campaign beyond Gondor’s borders. Meanwhile, Faramir cleansed Ithilien and the Morgul Vale, the Shire expanded westward, Samwise became Mayor, and Merry and Pippin were honored in Gondor. But the Fourth Age was also an age of farewell. Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf, Elrond, and Galadriel sailed into the West, while the Elves faded, the Dwarves became hidden, and Men inherited Middle-earth. Finally, under Eldarion, a disturbing new shadow began to stir — proof that even after Sauron, evil had not vanished forever.
