Did you know? Guinea worm disease could become the second human disease in history, after smallpox, to be eradicated.
We are down to the last mile in our mission to #DefeatGuineaWorm and are all set to welcome leaders from around the world to commit to #MissionZero.
#GuineaWormSummit
In January 2022, a record low number of reported Guinea worm cases was announced by the Carter Center’s Guinea Worm Eradication Program. This puts it on track to achieve the goal of eradicating the first human disease since smallpox.
The Guinea Worm Summit will celebrate this historic milestone and convene the five remaining endemic countries (Angola, Chad, Ethiopia, Mali, and South Sudan) to discuss endgame strategies and unite all in a recommitment to finishing this landmark journey.
Taking place March 20-22 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, the Summit marks renewed momentum and a sense of urgency to wipe out the disease.
