Can lithium-ion battery recycling get any simpler than using just vegetable oil 🌿 and water 💧?

This video showcases near-instantaneous recycling of a mock LIB pouch cell using water-soluble binders (replacing the industry-standard PVDF), followed by Leicester's patent-pending oil-water nanoemulsion technique for black mass separation. With design-for-recycling at the forefront, this method could redefine the future of battery circularity.

Staff involved in this work: Sean Scott, Jake Yang and Andrew Abbott.

The work was funded by the ReLiB, a Faraday Institution project (relib.ac.uk/about-us/)
