Chris Jackson is a geologist, Earth scientist, volcanologist and the Professor of Sustainable Geoscience at University of Manchester. Until very recently he held the Equinor Chair of Basin Analysis at Imperial College, London before moving to Manchester. In his field he is known for his groundbreaking work in the use of 3D seismic data to understand dynamic processes in sedimentary basins. In the public realm he fronted the BBC series Expedition Volcano and in 2020, alongside Dr Helen Czerski and Tara Shine, he was one of the Royal Institution’s Christmas Lecturers. Chris was the first black scientist to give the lectures since their inception in 1825. *** Once the meaning of it all was simple, if at times also cruel and/or barbaric. $Dr Helen Czerski - Tips for Existence Teaser First and foremost, Dr Helen Czerski is a physicist. A bubble physicist. Shes also an oceanographer, a paddler, a climate activist, a writer, a broadcaster and, of course, a key member of the Shambles family. She is currently a Research Fellow and lecturer in the department of Mechanical Engineering at University College London where her research focuses on ocean temperature and bubbles and air-sea gas transfer. She is the author of a Ladybird book on Bubbles and the best seller Storm in a Teacup: The Physics of Everyday Life. In 2018 she won the William Thomson, Lord Kelvin Medal and Prize from the Institute of Physics and is an Honorary Fellow of Churchill College at Cambridge. In 2020 she was one the RI Christmas Lecturers alongside Professor Chris Jackson and Tara Shine. She has presented a number of science documentaries and programmes for the BBC and Fully Charged.
