Important info on the 2015 15" MBP battery. Click "SHOW MORE" (or "v" on phones) to expand this text description for details.

🛠 TOOLS to open the Bottom Lid:
• Screwdriver Set (Amazon US): amzn.to/3jSP1H5
• Yamachi Tool Set (Amazon Japan): amzn.to/2zm0jgS

💵 NOTE: Your price on Amazon (US only) is the same even if you don't click the "amzn.to" Affiliate links above, but if you do kindly click and purchase within 24 hours, Amazon may pay me a small commission on all qualifying items in your Cart (even items not linked above).

NOTE#1: You only need the Pentalobe P5 to open the bottom lid, but I recommend getting one of the kits which also include the Torx T5 so you can repaste your CPU & GPU. The Yamachi kit I bought also included a plastic pry tool which is very nice to disconnect the battery so you don't need to use a fingernail.

NOTE#2: After removing all screws from the bottom lid, don't yank off the lid because there are 2 black plastic pieces toward the middle of the lid that fit into slots on the motherboard.  You can see those 2 black pieces from about 13min.11sec. in my other video here:

If your battery is swollen, it's likely these 2 black pieces are already popped out so it'll be easy to remove the bottom lid, but if the pieces are still in place, you need to slowly and gently pry the lid up with your fingers.  Don't use so much force the lid bends!  Do it slowly, gently with a rocking motion until those 2 pieces pop out of place and then the lid easily lifts off.

🔎 HOW TO CHECK YOUR BATTERY CYCLE COUNT & HEALTH
1. Click the Apple menu and chose "About This Mac."
(NOTE: the resulting dialog shows your Serial No.)
2. Click the little "System Report..." button.
3. In the "Hardware" section click on "Power."
4. "Health Information" shows Cycle Count & Health.

• iFixIt DIY Battery Repair: bit.ly/2LdMGXS

NOTE: If you use the iFixIt DIY, keep in mind their adhesive remover is highly flammable, so if you accidentally puncture your battery and it catches fire after you've used that adhesive remover, you will have an ever bigger fireball on your hands. I suggest sending it to Apple for safety.

🍎 OFFICIAL APPLE INFO
When I first telephoned Apple about my swollen battery, I told them I mainly use my MBP at home plugged in and asked them if doing that could lead to a swollen battery. They told me flat out, "No!" They told me "it would have to be an inherent defect in the battery that would lead to swelling." That made me feel all the more bad I didn't open my bottom lid before my AppleCare expired, as such would have been replaced for free! It also illustrates that Apple's 2015 MBP battery recall is too limited, in my opinion. I doubt my case is rare (my having a bad battery despite my S/N not being in the recall program).
