Concrete City in Nanticoke was built in 1911 by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad to house workers from the nearby Truesdale Colliery, once a massive coal producer. The experimental rows of poured concrete homes were ultimately deserted and left abandoned as mining declined, turning the site into a decaying relic of industry. Today, the hollow, crumbling structures stand as a haunting, long-forgotten reminder of Pennsylvania’s coal era.
