On the album "Be Frank, Furness" (due out in November 2013), Heyward Howkins spins his poetry in such an unusual way that it can, at time, make you feel like he is speaking in his own unique language. His vocal mannerisms, way of cooing phrases as well as turning them on their head feel like charming puzzle boxes. His love of words, of language is apparent. The fact that he is able to contain these jumbled stories in melodious songs is added icing to the cake. I spoke with him on the phone and we talked for probably an hour. Condensed down to a little under 30 minutes Heyward talks about why and how he makes his music.
