Niftski | Any% WR Pace to 8-4 on Original Hardware @Niftski | Uploaded 1 year ago | Updated 2 hours ago
I just want to start this description off by saying that I'm sorry for the poor video quality compared to my other videos. I do not currently have a capture card, and places where I was able to set up my phone to record my CRT were very limited, so this was the best I could do. I also recorded this by having my webcam on on Discord and ShadowPlaying the video with another Discord account, and I had to fix audio desyncing and properly crop the video while editing this video to fix the quality up as much as I can.
This is an absolutely surreal achievement to me. After doing some warpless runs on console to practice for FlibidyDibidy's upcoming SMB1 event at PACE Summer 2023 and getting nowhere, I decided to switch categories to Any% in a non-serious attempt to beat my console PB of 4:55.663. Not only did I dive into this with absolutely no practice beforehand (I don't have an EverDrive or any efficient way to practice on console anyways), but I was able to beat my console Any% PB in less than an hour (this run will also be uploaded soon!). After achieving this, I did some 4:54 attempts after a few people told me to and without expecting anything to happen. After about an hour, late at night, on day 1 of attempts, on the last attempt of the day, and in the process of memeing with my friends in vc, I finally got a run past pl8-1, and it ended up getting all the way to 8-4! This is the most incredible thing I've ever pulled off on controller by miles, and if this doesn't put any "Do it on controller / Keyboard is an unfair advantage" comments to shame, I don't know what will. I will likely continue 4:54 attempts on console here and there since I absolutely know I can get it now, but I don't know if I will grind it super seriously outside of simply using it for good Any% practice. Either way, I am extremely happy I have this controller consistency now, and I am stoked to see what else I'll be able to pull off while doing console practice!
Also just to be clear, I do not plan on making a switch to console. I will probably only switch if I end up getting better on controller than on keyboard since keyboard still suits my personal preference.
