it saves 1 minute to use time out. this assumes the best fight for both routes. also if you do not do time out, there is a decently high chance you still get screwed over. i.e. losing a life shroom, turn 1 fire no close call, turn 4 star shield, etc.
there is also a safer time out fight that does not bounce hallway bowser but that's not in the video
